These grants are designed to reduce barriers to care and keep pets in their homes, where they belong. To be considered for an AKC Humane Fund Veterinary Care Access Grant, applicants must meet the following qualifications and eligibility requirements:
● Mission Alignment: Applicants must provide direct assistance to help cover veterinary medical costs for pets whose owners lack sufficient financial resources to afford necessary care. Programs should demonstrate a clear commitment to keeping pets in their homes by reducing economic barriers to veterinary services.
● Nonprofit Status: Applicants must be a reputable organization recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended.
● Use of Funds: AKC Humane Fund Veterinary Care Grants are awarded to support specific programs, projects, or essential operational needs that directly advance access to veterinary care. Grant funds may not be used for:
○ Fundraising activities
○ Capital improvements, including construction, renovation, or major equipment purchases
● Grant Frequency Limitation: Organizations are not eligible to apply if they have received two AKC Humane Fund Veterinary Care Grants within the five-year calendar period immediately preceding the current application deadline.
● Reporting Requirements: All grant recipients are required to comply with AKC Humane Fund reporting guidelines, including timely submission of updates and final reports demonstrating the use and impact of awarded funds
Submitted applications must include the following materials, in the order listed below:
A fully completed application form, with additional sheets attached as needed to thoroughly respond to all questions.
Comprehensive financial documentation for the organization, including:
○ Most recent financial statements (audited, if available)
○ Total operating budget for the last completed fiscal year
○ Total operating budget for the current fiscal year
○ A list of the organization’s principal sources of ongoing annual support
A copy of the official IRS Determination Letter confirming the organization’s tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3).
